Magazine recognizes PDR program
The August/September edition of "Planning", the magazine of the American Planning Association, lists Lexington-Fayette County among a handful of the nation’s top counties for preserving farmland. Lexington was listed along with Baltimore County, Md., Marin and Sonoma counties in California and Lancaster County, Pa. The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government began its PDR program in 2000 with both a local comprehensive plan and growth boundaries as major components. The program requires a minimum lot size of 40 acres to participate. Fayette County currently has 23,167 acres of preserved farmland -- 11 blocks of which consist of 1,000 or more acres.

Corrections holds cookout
The Community Corrections Planning Committee hosted a cookout on Sept. 22, 2009, to generate funds for American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Christmas dinner. The cookout was conducted on all three shifts and was an overall success. Staff from all bureaus as well as contract staff attended the cookout and enjoyed fresh food off the grill. The cookout provided an opportunity for everyone to take a break and catch up with co workers over a delicious meal.

The event also allowed staff to participate in the always popular “Lucky Bucks” which allows staff to enter into a drawing for one dollar. The drawing was conducted at the end of all three shifts and the winner received half of all monies collected. Corporal Jessica Herbel, of Intake Processing/ 3rd shift, was the lucky winner of $51 at this event. The Community Corrections Planning Committee would like to express their appreciation and thanks for everyone who came out and participated in the event
