On January 26, 2007, the administration of Mayor Jim Newberry and members of the 17th Urban County Council convened at Shakertown to consider Lexington's priorities. That exercise yielded the Six Pillars of Progress, which have become key initiatives for the city- the Environment, Economic Development, a Community Vision, Innovative Planning, Efffective Communication and Government Efficiency.
